About
English IV Language Arts is the study of British literature and informational texts. Students will read fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. In addition, students will continue to develop and use vocabulary and grammar skills. English IV students are expected to produce coherent and well organized writing using the writing process. The English IV class will also focus on College and Career Readiness where students will have opportunities to explore writing for future careers and entrance requirements into a post-secondary environment.
The primary objective of this course is that students will become lifelong lovers and critics of literature. Through reading and writing, students get a chance to explore worlds and ideas outside of their own, enabling them to develop empathy for other genders, ethnicities, generations, nationalities, religions and cultures. Literature is intimately involved in our quest to understand humanity and the societies we create. This year students are given multiple opportunities to discover and confront issues and questions that exercise their minds and intellects.

Dear Parents / Guardians, Your student has received the Summer Reading List identifying the reading required before entering the English class for this 2021-2022 school year. The purpose of summer reading is to: encourage reading, set expectations for English classrooms, assess reading and writing skills, and expose students to literature found on the AP exams. We are confident that this reading program will enrich our exemplary school curriculum as well as our students for future academic challenges; however, please be advised that some selections contain adult language, themes, and situations. Encourage your student to begin reading now. Please read the instructions and the list below before the end of this school year. During the first cycle, students will be formally assessed (project, test and/or essay) on their comprehension of these works. |
